Brown red spiked rug - what is it?
The brown-red spiked copper rug is a type of rose. Originally, spiny copperweed is not native to Central Europe, but originates from New Zealand and Australia, where it is found in wide and loose meadows. The feathery foliage of Acaena microphylla is matt and reddish brown all year round, giving it the appearance of a copper carpet, but the colour becomes even more intense in autumn and shines beautifully in the garden. In June and July, the spikes change: the flowers, which are about 1-2 centimetres in size, open up and their bright red colour is captivating. In autumn, the flowers dry out, but they are still very pretty to look at and are also suitable for handicrafts or as decoration in interiors.
Brown-red spiky ash - when and where to plant it?
Brown spiny ash should preferably be planted in the spring months, so that it can take root sufficiently before the cold winter sets in. Acaena microphylla does not like it too cold - before the frost comes, cover the plants with leaves or brushwood. When planting, a distance of 20-25 centimetres is advisable so that the ground cover can grow densely enough, so make sure you buy enough spikes. The plants grow to about 10 centimetres high. As a rule, the brown-red thorns are very pleasant, they usually have no problems with pests or plant diseases. The soil should be well-drained and fresh - if your garden is too firm, you can work sand into the soil. Depending on how warm it gets, especially in summer, a sunny to semi-shady spot is optimal for the Acaena microphylla.
But the spikyüshing is versatile:
When you buy the spiky ash, it beautifies stone walls or wall joints and is also ideal for planting on graves - here the copper carpet looks particularly beautiful.
