Sagina subulata - a carpet of stars for your garden
Sagina subulata is a vigorous, evergreen, hardy, ground-covering perennial that blooms white. Sagina moss prevents weeds from spreading in the garden. This keeps the garden looking neat and tidy. Sagina moss grows very quickly and densely. In a sunny to semi-shady location, Sagina subulata can survive many winters without any problems.
What is the star moss suitable for?
Sternmoss is a grass-forming, creeping perennial that occurs naturally on rocky slopes. Sagina Subulata looks great along paths, in a rock garden, on the balcony or in the cemetery. A star moss grave not only looks very well-kept, it also impresses with its dense, evergreen carpet and white flowers. In addition, star moss is suitable as a lawn substitute. These sagina, which are only about five centimetres high, form entire "carpets". Star moss is used as a substitute for ornamental lawns, but they are not particularly tread-resistant. They are therefore more often used between paving slabs and other stepping stones in damp, somewhat shady places where grass does not grow well.
Buying star moss - what should be considered?
Sagina moss is very pleasant and requires little care. Sagina subulata plants grow well in sun (not too bright) and not too much shade, provided the soil remains sufficiently moist. The soil where the Sagina moss is planted must be permeable so that no waterlogging occurs. A sandy soil with a high humus content is ideal. You can add a little compost when you plant the moss plants. It is not necessary to prune the plants. The plants should be placed 15 to 20 cm apart.
Sagina forms dense, ground-covering hügel "tuffs"
Tuffs provide a closed moss cover. Although sagina looks very much like moss, it is not moss but a plant from the clove family. The sagina is very beautiful in combination with ornamental grasses and an absolute must for a rock garden. This groundcover is perfect for planting in areas, borders or in a bed.
