Armeria maritima Splendens - Beach Pink
The sea carnation, also known as the grass carnation, blooms profusely from May to July. The pink flower balls stand out very elegantly on small stems from the grass-like cushion. The evergreen ground cover grows in a cushion-like, upright and cluster-forming manner. With its grass-like and narrow leaves, Armeria Splendens reaches an average height of 10 to 20 cm.
What is the grass carnation pink suitable for?
The undemanding evergreen ground cover Armeria maritima Spendens is suitable for rockery, borders and beds. But it is also a real feast for the eyes in the garden. Especially on stone walls, between stone joints or on a roof garden, the sea pink shows its best side. The Armeria maritima loves a sunny location, as it is an undemanding ground cover, it grows on all types of soil and can also tolerate short periods of drought. It loves field – sand thyme as a planting partner.
Food sources for insects
Because the beach carnation provides ample pollen and nectar, it attracts many bumblebees, bees and butterflies, which are as enthralled by the splendour as their observers.
Special features of the seaside carnation
Although this very undemanding plant is hardy, complications can arise in particularly cold winter months, in which case it is advisable to cover the plant with leaves or straw.
If you decide to give Armeria maritima Splendens a new home in your garden, you will need about 12 plants per square metre.
