"Cypress trees are often used for topiary. A common and popular form of pruning is the so-called ponpon. This pruning causes the needles to branch out more and more, resulting in a dense growth form. The final shape is the result of several years of pruning. This is a plant on which the balls (ponpons) üare spread over the stem. This is a very eexclusive plant, an ornament for any garden.

This slow-growing evergreen Californian cypress with its fern-like appearance has a distinctive, twisted leaf shape. The foliage is blue-green in colour. Chamaecyparis lawsoniana 'Wisselii' prefers a place in the sun, in well-drained, normal garden soil. It tolerates a temperature of -25 °C.

To maintain the appearance of this topiary, it is important to prune it once a year. Pruning is best done by hand with hedge shears. The best time to prune is at the beginning of July. It is best to prune on an overcast and slightly cooler day. Use the hedge trimmer to bring the cypress ponpon back into shape. You can prune the plant a second time in autumn or winter, but only if it is not freezing!

If you keep the plant in a pot, we recommend that you fertilise it regularly during the growing season. Planted in the garden, the annual application of a layer of peat litter around the base of the plant is sufficient.
