Calliandra 'Dixie Pink' is a tender, spreading shrub or small tree with pinnate, glossy, dark green leaves, bronze-coloured when young, divided into pairs of long to lanceolate leaflets. Tdeep pink fluffy flowers with long, flaring, bright stamens. This variety is grown as an attractive shrub on a trunk and is therefore ideal as an eye-catcher in a garden or planted in a solitary position.
The fragrant pink flowers of the Calliandra 'Dixie Pink' resemble giant powder puffs, hence the name of the powder puff shrub. As an added bonus, the foliage is equally attractive as the finely divided, feathery leaves are tinged pink before maturing to a darker green. At night the leaves fold up.
As a native of South America, Calliandra is a real sun lover and grows best where it can be kept in a sunny position and kept in a greenhouse or conservatory over the winter.
You can keep the little plant in the cold, but it will also cheer up your garden when planted. As this plant is grown in a container, it can be planted all year round.
