The hardy azalea 'Kermesina'
A beautiful eye-catcher, the hardy azalea 'Kermesina' looks particularly good along paved driveways or in house entrances. It is also popular for planting under Bäumen. With its funnel-shaped pink flowers, it is a feast for the eyes and attracts a lot of attention. The Rhododendron obtusum 'Kermesina', which is the Latin name of the Japanese azalea Kermensina, blooms from May to June and is then very dominant with its many pink flowers and üeven covers its own small green flowers.
Azaleas are very popular with insects
Thanks to its multitude of flowers, this rhododendron is a popular plant with our native insects and they will fly to it again and again during the flowering season. A perfect location for the Japanese azalea is in the sun or in partial shade. When it comes to the soil, azalea lovers should ensure that the soil is acidic and well-drained. The Japanese azalea will thank you for this with its wonderful flowers from May to June. Even after or before the flowering season, the winter-hardy azalea is a perennial worthy of care due to its multitude of small green leaves.
The rhododendron offers a variety of planting options
Whether the Japanese azalea is planted in a border with the Japanese flowering cimmia or as a solitary in the front garden, it will delight all garden lovers. The Rhododendron obtusum Kermesina can also be used as a wonderful flowering ground cover in the garden. Wherever the hardy azalea finds its place, it is a great eye-catcher. Azaleas do not require a lot of care, but before the flowering season in spring you should use some organic fertiliser that is especially suitable for rhododendrons. Azaleas just don't like it when the fertiliser has lime in it, so it should be the same with the water. It is best to water rhododendrons with rainwater, which is always soft and therefore low in lime. To keep the moisture in the soil, mulch the soil around the plant with compost or autumn leeks. This also suppresses weed growth and allows the rhododendron to grow and thrive even better.
