Tradescantia andersoniana 'Innocence' a little white beauty
The three-master flower 'Innocence' as Tradescantia andersoniana 'Innocence' is colloquially known, is an upright bushy perennial. Its maximum height is 40 to 50 cm and it reaches a width of 30 to 40 cm. Its cup-shaped white flowers delight the gardener from May to July, and under good conditions a second flowering occurs in September. The white flowers form a great contrast to the narrow, linear, green leaves. The foliage is summer green and should be cut back in late autumn when the plant begins to retract, so that it can flourish again in full splendour and beauty the next year. In addition, the three-master flower Innocence is a popular ornamental element in floristry and spices up summer flower arrangements.
Use of the three-master flower 'Innocence'
This beautiful relative no perennial is excellent for borders and free-range planting Because it is a good source of food for bees and other native insects, Tradescantia andersoniana 'Innocence' is also suitable for planting in a bee pasture or cottage garden. Because of its long flowering period, the three-master flower is often used to border a patio or for planting on a balcony. When planting, care should be taken that the perennial prefers a location in the sun or partial shade, in the shade it flowers less abundantly and also achieves a lower growth height. The perennial is forgiving of small mistakes in care and will not be damaged by short dry spells, but it does need a lot of water. However, as it does not tolerate waterlogging, the soil in which the three-master flower is planted should be well-drained and rich in nutrients.
An enrichment for the garden
The most important reason why the three-master flower Innocence is an enrichment for the garden is its beautiful and numerous flowers.
If the plants are cut back after the first flowering at the end of July, they will sprout once again and delight every observer with a second flowering in September. Its light fragrance makes it ideal for planting close to a seating area. Tradescantia andersoniana 'Innocence' is a hardy plant and copes well with temperatures as low as -30°C.
