Bamboo Pingwu ideal evergreen hedge
The Fargesia robusta 'Pingwu' is a horst-forming bamboo with green culms that does not grow overgrow despite its dense habit and is ideal for narrow hedges. When fully grown, it reaches a height of about 5 metres. In general, this bamboo grows quickly, about 30 to 50 cm per year. The culms of Fargesia Pingwu are particularly attractive. The new shoots appear in the first months of spring and have a green colour. The young shoots are covered with fine, unobtrusive hairs. As they grow older, the culms turn light green and the fine hairs fall off. In autumn, the top of the culm begins to branch and develop additional leaves. The lower part of the culms can remain unfoliated during the winter months.
Fargesia robusta possible in many locations
Unlike many other bamboo species, Fargesia Pingwu tolerates sunlight well and shows no signs of leaf burn. However, the bamboo should be planted in a place that offers some protection from the midday heat. It also grows well in partial shade and shade. Fargesia robusta 'Pingwu'is a cold-resistant bamboo that can üsurvive even in winter temperatures of up to -17 degrees Celsius and retain its evergreen characteristics.
When creating a partition or bamboo hedge, the bamboo plants should be about 30 centimetres apart. The Fargesia robusta 'Pingwu' grows quickly and forms an acceptable hedge in a reasonable time. Its compact character also makes it a popular bamboo for planting in large pots on terraces or balconies. It thrives well on a variety of Böden. Choose a planting site that is well drained and rich in organic matter to ensure optimal growth. Fargesia robusta 'Pingwu' likes evenly moist Böden, but can also tolerate short dry periods.
