If you place different coloured varieties close to each other, it looks as if the lilac is flowering in several colours. The summer lilac grows as a shrub and can therefore also be used as a hedge plant. The summer lilac provides a rich source of nectar for bumblebees, bees and butterflies, especially in the flowering season. The shrub tolerates the sea breeze quite well and can therefore be a good solution for gardens near the coast.
