Red beech

The copper beech will be well known to you as a native tree and is the ideal hedge plant for your garden. It is a hardy hedge that provides you with optimal privacy from the neighbouring garden all year round.

When you buy copper beech, you will quickly have an opaque hedge in your garden

The fresh green leaves of the copper beech make it opaque as a hedge in summer. It is very easy to prune, grows vigorously and can easily be kept at any height by pruning. Its smooth green foliage makes the hedge look very lively and decorative. The autumn foliage turns yellow-orange to red-brown. The copper beech retains its dry foliage in winter and thus remains opaque. The leaves only fall off when the new leaves emerge in spring. A yearly growth of 30cm is no problem.

How to find the best place for the copper beech in your garden

The hardy copper beech has been growing in Europe for centuries. Unlike the Carpinus, the Fagus is not very good at resisting soil that is too wet. The Fagus sylvatica loves lime in the soil. Make sure that the soil never dries out completely. The field can be sunny, but without direct irradiation of the bark. Fertilise every spring under the hedge so that the surface roots can get good nutrition.

Pruning copper beech hedges properly

A Fagus hedge should be pruned at least once a year in June (around the longest day of June 21) and possibly again at the end of summer. Significant pruning, if the hedge has become too tall, can be done in March.
