"Kolkwitzia amabilis 'Pink Cloud' is a medium-sized, summer-green shrub that develops branches from the base. The young shoots are hairy, purple, then develop small green flowers that turn purple in dry summer weather and autumn. In spring, a multitude of small pink flowers with dark exteriors appear, covering the shrub. In June, these round flowers adorn the tips of the branches of this hardy shrub. The orange-brown bark is streaked on the old wood. The mother-of-pearl shrub has been awarded the Royal Horticultural Society Award of Garden Merit for its reliable performance, colour and shape retention and good resistance to pests and diseases.
The Kolkwitzia amabilis is most comfortable in full sun and makes few demands on soil and care. It should be lightly nutrient-rich and well drained, give it a rejuvenation every 4-5 years by cutting off the oldest branches. Once the shrub is well established, it will only need watering if it is very dry. Temperatures up to
-30°C are no challenge for the plant.
The plants are pot-grown, so you can use them all year round.
