Japanese Lavender Heath - Andromeda pol. 'Blue Ice'

Lavender Heath Blue Ice is a compact evergreen garden plant that stands out with its grey-green leaves. Lavender Heath flowers in April-May with small pink flowers arranged in clusters. This garden plant likes an acidic soil and can therefore be combined well with heather plants in the bed, but is also suitable as a pot plant on the balcony or terrace.

Planting lavender heather with a little peat

Andromeda polifolia Blue Ice is hardy and prefers sun or partial shade in humus-rich, moist but well-drained soil. To maintain the acidic soil environment, use plenty of garden peat when planting and add a little extra each spring. After flowering, prune back only lightly to maintain shape.

Andromeda polifolia Blue Ice versatile possibilities

As this garden plant flowers quite early in the season, it is nice to place it in front of the rhododendron. In May and June you will then be rewarded with a magnificent display of flowers. If you want to keep it a little quieter, the colour combination of the lavender heather is also very nice with blue creeping juniper. In this case, the Lavender Heath is placed behind the Juniper to give a nice build up of height differences in your flower bed. The small, pink, bell-shaped flowers that contrast nicely with the blue-grey leaves makes Lavender Heath Blue Ice a pretty looking ornamental shrub in your garden.
